Jennifer Kogan, LICSW

I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, couple and family therapist with twenty years of ongoing training, social work, and private practice experience. I offer solution-focused counseling and strategies to boost communication skills and increase feelings of trust, good will and connection. I am also a parent who is familiar with the joys and struggles that go along with raising a family in Washington, DC.

My style is active, warm, non-judgmental with a little gentle humor, as well.  I consider and honor differences in how people think and feel. Should you decide to consult with me, you will be comfortable and supported in whatever style suits you best. There is no one right way to communicate, the key is understanding what makes each other tick and learning how to connect effectively.

Growing up in our first family we learn to adapt in certain ways. We can bring this perspective with us as we make our way in the world. This is neither good nor bad; just information we can work with. Often, it’s certain beliefs and fears that we hold that keep us from taking steps that might lead to growth. Amazingly, discovering and naming what scares us the most can be the key to lasting change. We all want to be seen and loved for who we are. We don’t want to feel stuck or worried or stressed.

My practice offers counseling and support for:

I also consult with parents and families who may have concerns or need help connecting with their child/teen or young adult. Adults also consult with me for help making sense of their relationships with their own parents. As an individual,  couple and family systems therapist I specialize in transitions across the life cycle.
